Some of our Proud Achievements and Activities
- RILC was the lead agency in the production of the ADAPT Resource
Manual. It provides readily available information on people with
disabilities with co-occurring substance abuse issues.
- RILC provided Survival Sign Language training for Rockland County
firefighters and EMTs during last year's Hurricane Floyd disaster.
- RILC insisted that the Village of Haverstraw adopt a resolution to
implement the ADA in all Village programs and services.
- RILC provided training on disability benefits and work incentive
programs to mental health peer advocate trainees.
- RILC advocated for more accessibility at the Palisades Mall Theatres.
- RILC advocated and instituted a program to provide sign language
interpreters for medical services at Nyack Hospital.
Highlights of Direct Consumer Services
- Assist in obtaining TTY's and Lifeline Services from Bell Atlantic
- Help in obtaining Section 55 Waivers for employment with Rockland
County without Civil Service testing
- Worked to achieve SSI, SSD, Worker's Compensation and private
insurance benefits; as well as assist with SSA overpayments
- Extensive referrals and assistance with the Rockland Employment
Network and Vocational and Educational Services for Individuals with
Disabilities (VESID)
- Helped with applications for TRIPS Services
- Provided pre-release services for people with disabilities currently
in correctional facilities
- Represent individuals at FAIR hearings and CAP/VESID meetings
- Coordinate provision of services with employee assistance personnel
- Referrals for appearance in motion picture film being produced
- Provide sign language interpreting for various medical services
- Obtain reasonable accommodation for U.S. Military Academy student
- Refer when needed for professional counseling/therapy/medical services
- Help with obtaining better case management services
